Keeping up with the latest and greatest gaming computer or gaming system can put a large hole in your wallet. Is there a way to enjoy the best video games on a system that runs smoothly and still not spend a fortune? Here are some ideas to help you save money.

One obvious idea is to play last month's games, or even last year's games. You can usually get them really cheap on Amazon or on eBay. Be careful when buying used games as some only allow one person to use the key, so even if the game comes with the unlock key it is no good.

Getting games a month or more after they first come out can save you lots of money. After all, trying to purchase every game the day it comes out will put you in the poor house unless you are a millionaire to start with.

It is the same with gaming systems. By waiting a few months after the newest toy comes out you will probably end up with a system that has been improved upon and that costs less. Just be patient.

Some older versions are actually better than the newer ones. For instance, many people prefer Knights of the Old Republic 1 more than the newer version 2. So buying an older game ends up saving you money and can be more fun in some instances.

Also, try upgrading games rather than upgrading computer systems. There are few people who can afford to upgrade to the newest computer system each time a change is made. As long as you have a machine that has high gigahertz, a big enough video graphics card, and fair amount of RAM, you should be fine for at least several years before the newer video games require more power than what your machine has.

When you do need a new computer system try ordering online from a company that puts the computer together from the pieces you request. Or if you are familiar with upgrading your computer hardware you can go that route.

There is no need to go broke buying the latest and greatest video games and systems if you are willing to wait for prices to come down and if you are willing to concentrate on upgrading the games instead of the system.
